Setting the World on Fire

A lot can change in five years. Children go from helpless little creatures to walking, speaking, slightly bigger little creatures; pandemics come, unpack their unpleasantness and turn the world upside down; and Bart has been creating stuff like this:

Created for Habtic.

And yet, our story begins with a guy who was actually hired to do something else.

“At first, I was hired to draw concepts of people. These drawings would then be modeled with 3D software and used as the coaches we’d have in Habtic. But this work lasted only a couple of weeks or months… Very early in the development of the coaches, we went from a concept of drawings to photogrammetry.”

Alright. So that didn’t work out.

But just because the coaches were changing, we weren’t about to let such talent go to waste. “From this point, my work became a bit more diverse like working on minigames, drawings for recruitment posters, drawings for animation, and for more social-media-related things.”

Alright. That seems to be working out.

During this period of time, Bart also had the opportunity to grow professionally, to continue drawing in many different styles, and to build up his confidence in his skills. “I still have a lot to learn though.”

Now he’s just trying to sound humble. It’s all good. If you’ve got it, flaunt it.

What about the workplace? Have we grown? “Dephion just became bigger and bigger very fast. Everything became bigger. More management, Bigger events, etc.”

To be clear, “more management” probably refers to an increased number of team leads for multiple projects rather than layers upon layers of bosses. In that sense, we’re as flat as a board.

After having spent five years working with us, one can only hope that Bart still feels that little flutter in his stomach when he walks into the building.

“Time flies when you are having fun, so these 5 years felt like an eternity to me...no... joking aside, I have enjoyed my 5 years of work here, not in the least also thanks to having such fun colleagues. Thanks, everybody, for enduring my jokes, pranks, and in general annoying behaviour. I hope to see all of you still here when the world will be celebrating my 10th anniversary!”

The world? Not so humble now, are we? We approve. Until then, there is no doubt in our hearts that Bart will still be setting the world on fire with that burning passion in his heart for art.
